Shillong, Jan 9: Manish Sharma turned in a mind-blowing bowling performance whereby he took 8/14 in 15 overs as Meghalaya defeated Sikkim by a colossal 328 runs in their U-23 men’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy match in Rangpo, Sikkim, today.
With a haul of 6/40 in the first innings, Manish thus claimed 14/54 in the match – some of the best-ever figures for a Meghalaya bowler in history.
To recap, Meghalaya were bowled for 113 in their first innings and Sikkim were then restricted to 91 all out before Meghalaya posted 370/9 by the end of play yesterday in their second innings, giving them a lead of 392.
The visitors, who had relied on captain Kevin Christopher’s century yesterday to get them to over 300, declared on their overnight score but Sikkim were nowhere near to reaching the target of 393 for victory as they were shot out for 64 in 40.5 overs.
Just two Sikkim batters got 10 or more runs, with Manish running through the line-up with ease, taking a wicket on average every 11 balls bowled. The only two wickets he did not claim were bagged by Aryan Borah (1/18) and Abhishek Kumar (1/31).
Meghalaya will now travel to Gujarat where they will take on Manipur in their next fixture from 14th January in Surat.
