Shillong, Jan 10: Shillong Lajong FC will face Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters FC in their opening Group B match of the Super Cup 2024 in Bhubaneswar today. Kick-off will be at 2PM.
This will be Lajong’s first competitive match in 2024; they had last played (and won) against Namdhari FC on 23rd December in the I-League.
The Blasters will be a completely different story as they are currently leading the ISL table.
Lajong didn’t perform all that well against the ISL sides they met in the Durand Cup last year but that was before the Reds had secured the services of their foreign players.
The other two ISL clubs that make up Group B of the Super Cup are NorthEast United FC and Jamshedpur FC.
The tournament this year features all 12 ISL teams plus four from the I-League. Lajong have previously played in the Super Cup, in 2018, when they reached the quarterfinals. Back then it was a straight knockout event but now it features a group stage before the semifinals and final in a format introduced last year.
