Shillong, Feb 4: Royal Challengers Mawsynram won the final of the Mawten IV Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2023-24 on Friday against Nongpoh Town Club.
The Mawsynram team won the title match by five wickets to become first-time champions of the tournament, which was organised by Mawten SC at Mawpyllun playground.
In the decisive encounter, Nongpoh Town Club won the toss and chose to bat, making 113 all out in 16.5 overs. Pushkar Raj, with 27 runs, was the highest scorer for Nongpoh Town Club, while Andelbert Shangpliang and Robin Chettri of Royal Challengers claimed three wickets each.
In response, Royal Challengers scored 115/5 in 17.1 overs. Rudy Shangpliang, with 52 runs, was the top scorer and was named Player of the Match. Siraj Ali of Nongpoh Town Club took three wickets.
Other individual awards were handed out at the prize distribution ceremony. The Player of the Tournament was Bharat Gurung of Nongpoh Town Club, while the Highest Run Scorer was Rohit Rai of Donking SCC. Robin Chettri of Royal Challengers was the Highest Wicket Taker.
The victorious Royal Challengers received prize money of Rs 40,000, while the runners-up took home Rs 20,000. Dignitaries present at the final included Meghalaya Cricket Association Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor and Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, office bearers of the South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association, office bearers of Mawten SC and officials from the Sports & Youth Affairs Department.
