Shillong, Feb 25: Mihpli United and Umphrup SC (pictured) became the first two teams to reach the quarterfinals of the 2nd Shortimai Knockout Football Tournament after they won their respective Round of 16 matches in Smit yesterday.
Mihpli United blanked YBSC Shella 3-0 with a brace by Ebormi Mukhim (5′, 34′) and one goal by Iaisuklang Kharsati (15′).
Later, Mylliem Lum SC took the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to a Shaitbor Kharkrang goal but the team were then reduced to 10 men after the Mylliem Lum goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside the box.
Umphrup then equalised in the 42nd minute through Freddy Kharbyngar and regulation time ended 1-1. A penalty shootout was therefore required and Umphrup won this 5-4.
The next matches will be held on 28th February. At 11AM Lumkynsai FC will face Sohtun Thynroit and this will be followed by Laitkyrhong SC versus Synroplang of Laitkor at 2PM.
