Shillong, Mar 12: The 3rd East Khasi Hills Cricket Association District League began today in Smit with wins for Laitjem CC and Sohra Combine by 70 runs and three wickets respectively.

Baniar Mukhim, Secretary Dong of Smit declared the tournament officially open.

In the first match, in Group A, reigning champions Laitjem won the toss and chose to bat first against Mawphlang CC.

Nangkham Pathaw’s 42 from 43 balls helped propel Laitjem to 147/9 in their allotted 20 overs, while Banbhalang Nongsiej took 3/24 in 4 overs.

In reply, Mawphlang were dismissed for 77 in 16 overs. Nangkham took 4/8 in 3 overs and was declared Player of the Match.

Later, in Group B, Hurdles CC won the toss and also chose to bat first against Sohra Combine. Hurdles scored 113/8 in 20 overs, which Sohra chased down for the loss of seven wickets in 19.1 overs.

Sandy Kharshandi top-scored for Hurdles with 38 from 35 balls, while Donkyrmen Nadon picked up 2/11 in 4 overs.

Player of the Match Mangkara Diengdoh struck 15 from 10 to see Sohra Combine to victory despite D Shangpliang’s 3/24 in 4.
