Shillong, Apr 2: The 3rd East Khasi Hills Cricket Association District League concluded its group stage today in Smit, with the four semifinalists confirmed.
Both of the knockout matches will take place on Thursday. In the first semifinal Laitjem CC will face Hurdles CC of Mawsynram, while Nongdawah CC and Cricket Lovers CC will face off in the second.
Today the last two group stage matches were conducted, with Mawryngkneng CC beating Mawphlang CC by 17 runs, while Sohra Combine CC defeated Marbisu CC by six wickets.
In the first match, Mawryngkneng won the toss and chose to bat first, posting a colossal 176/6 in 20 overs, with a top score of 86 from 51 deliveries by Apsharailang Mawthoh. Given the high scoring rate, it was impressive that Banbhalang Nongsiej was able to give away just 11 runs in 4 overs and he took two wickets in the process for the best figures of the first innings.
In reply, Mawphlang had a very good outing with the bat but it wasn’t quite enough as they were restricted to 159/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Mawlynnai Wahlang hit 43 from 36 balls, while Gudingstar Kharsati bagged 2/25 in 4 overs. Apsharailang (pictured left) was declared Player of the Match.
Later, Marbisu chose to bat after winning the toss but they didn’t have the same level of success, being kept down to just 102/5 in 20 overs. Shalenbor Kurbah’s 31 from 40 balls was the top score.
Sohra Combine didn’t have too much of an issue chasing down the total, taking only 13.1 overs to do so for the loss of four wickets. Mangkara Diengdoh top-scored with 39 from 24 deliveries and Mansuk Kurbah netted 2/9 in 2 overs. Jona Lyngdoh Nonglait (pictured right) was named Player of the Match.
