Shillong, Apr 21: Mawsynram Cluster and Sohra (A) Cluster won the opening matches of the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s Benjamin Diengdoh Memorial U-15 Boys Inter Cluster Cricket Tournament 2024 in Smit on Saturday.
In the first match, Mawsynram defeated Mawryngkneng Cluster by 40 runs before Sohra (A) then beat STCC Pongtung Cluster by 10 wickets.
Mawsynram won the toss and chose to bat first. They posted 144/6 in the allotted 20 overs with Shanskhem Dohling top-scoring with 21. Damewanbiang Shadap, meanwhile, took 3/19 in 4 overs.
Mawryngkneng were then restricted to 104/9 in 20 overs despite Hamebandap War’s 55 from 51 deliveries. Nangsan Kynter bagged 2/10 in 3 overs. Jentizen Marpna (pictured left) was the Player of the Match for netting two wickets and scoring 20 runs.
Later, Sohra (A) opted to field first after winning the toss and promptly ran through the STCC Pontung batting order, dismissing them for 18 in 8.2 overs. Othaniel Lyngdoh Nonglait took 3/4 in 2 overs.
Sohra (A) just needed 2.3 overs to chase down the target, which they accomplished without loss. Othaniel (pictured right) was named Player of the Match.
The tournament was opened by Aaron G Diengdoh, brother of the late Benjamin Diengdoh, in the presence of the EKH Cricket Association officials.
The tournament had been scheduled to begin on Tuesday but had to be postponed due to persistent inclement weather.
