Shillong, May 12: In tune with the policy of Meghalaya Cricket Association to popularise and encourage local talent in rural areas throughout the state, the South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association inaugurated its new cricket academy in Mawten, Mawkyrwat, yesterday.
The academy has been established with the support of the MCA and training is to be imparted by local National Cricket Academy-qualified coaches.
MCA President Nababrata Bhattacharjee, MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor and MCA Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria were present for the momentous occasion in the presence of SWKHDCA President Banteibor Lyngdoh, General Secretary B Nongsiej and other officials of the district association.
There was wonderful turnout from young boys and girls, with 180 eager cricketers, both boys and girls, in the 7-14 age group coming out to enrol themselves in the academy.
“I’m confident that players from this district will be the future strength of cricket in our state,” Bhattacharjee said. “The MCA is committed to support all such initiatives to strengthen the promotion of cricket at the grassroots level on a sustained basis.”
