There was a record number of shooters who participated, with 67 in total (45 in the air rifle and 22 in air pistol).

The competition was held in six categories, namely for 11-16s (sub-youth), 16-18s (youth), 18-21s (junior), 21-45s (senior), 45-60s (master), para and rifle and pistol by hearing impaired.

Shooting Association of Meghalaya President John F Kharshiing said that SAM has come a long way in attracting athletes to shooting as a sport as well as laying the groundwork for further success through qualified National Rifle Association of India jury members (Anjali Singh, Davis NR Marak, John Thounaojam), NRAI qualified coaches (Balarishisha Rani, Dennyson Kyrsian, Mawdaker Marwein, Veronica Buhroy).

Kharshiing stated that SAM’s vision is to have its own integrated shooting range so as to provide opportunities for the talented pool of shooters from Meghalaya. He recalled the statement from a very senior Army official that “the best snipers in the Army come from the North East and if there is a proper fully integrated shooting range in Meghalaya there is possibility of producing world class shooters”.
