Shillong, Jun 7: East Khasi Hills were overall champions at the 9th Meghalaya State Shooting Championship 2024, which concluded on 30th June, a delayed release informed yesterday.

The event, organised by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya, began on 26th June and was held at the Precision Indoor Range at the Assam Regimental Centre in Happy Valley here.

EKH won 33 medals – 9 gold, 9 silver, 15 bronze – while West Garo Hills were second with 4 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze. Ri-Bhoi finished third with 2 gold and 1 silver and West Jaintia Hills secured 1 gold.

In all there were 83 shooters – 52 male and 31 female – from across the state. Medals were awarded in 48 categories.

Lalgouhao Singson, aged just 11, was the youngest shooter, while Bapynkmen Ajar (53) was the oldest. Eight deaf shooters – three male and five female – competed in both rifle and pistol events and there was one para-shooter as well.

Dignitaries from the police force, air force and Meghalaya State Olympic Association were present on the final day for the prize distribution. Also present were championship judges, technical officials and senior members of SAM.
