Junior Girls’ National Football C’ship 2024: Meghalaya lose to Sikkim

Shillong, Aug 3: Meghalaya started their Junior Girls’ National Football Championship (Tier 2) campaign with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sikkim in Belgaum, Karnataka, today.

Meghalaya had been meant to meet Sports Authority of India two days ago but SAI withdrew from the event, leaving just three teams in Group D, the other being Madhya Pradesh.

Only the top team from each of the four groups will progress to the semifinals, so Meghalaya are already out of contention as Sikkim had defeated MP 3-2 on Thursday and now have a full 6 points.

Today Meghalaya took the lead in the 20th minute via Eiladki Ksoo but Sikkim came back strongly in the second half and found the equaliser through Smeeta Sundas (59′) and the winner in the 90th minute from Yangreep Lepcha.

Meghalaya will take on MP on Monday in the final group fixture.

Meghalaya line-up today:
Shishameri L Peinlang (GK), Saphapaia Lyngdoh, Ibadarihun Nongsiej, Blessiful Thongni (sub Larihun Songthiang 75′), Alisha Lyngdoh, Bonifilia Shullai, Balabet Khongsit, Philasakhi Marngar, Eightfulness Shangdiar (sub Dakani Shylla 75′), Eiladki Ksoo, Adelecia N Khongwar (sub Judith Kharmuti 66′)
