Shillong, Aug 14: The Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2024 will begin on 2nd September with 13 teams divided into two groups.
The SSA released the first nine fixtures from each group yesterday. All the matches will take place at the SSA Stadium at First Ground in Polo.
Group A consists of six teams – Meghalaya Police, Sohiong SC, Umphrup SC, Smit SC, Laitkyrhong SC and Imson SC.
Group B has seven teams – Pay For Right Football Academy, Mylliem Lum SC, Jongksha SC, Nongkrem SC, Marbisu SC, Laitlyngkot SC and Lumshyiap SC.
The top two sides from each group will progress to the semifinals. Only the finalists will be promoted to next year’s First Division, while the bottom team from each group will be relegated to the Third Division 2025.
PFR won the Third Division last year, with Mylliem Lum the runners-up. Meghalaya Police were losing semifinalists and were also promoted. The other team to have reached the semifinals were Nongkseh but they aren’t in the Second Division list of teams. However, as Nongkseh signed several players in the inter-club transfer window, that suggests that they have bid for and won the vacant slot in the First Division.
The SSA suspended relegation for the 2023 season, meaning that no teams dropped down from the First Division.
