Shillong, Oct 1: Laitkyrhong SC conceded first before scoring twice to beat Sohiong SC 2-1 in Group A of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Wanboklang Kharshilot (24′) sent Sohiong in front but Laitkyrhong equalised and then bagged the lead before half time thanks to quick goals from Mebanrikupar Rynjah (39′) and Shngainlang Surong (43′).
Laitkyrhong moved up to second place with this win. They have 10 points, like Meghalaya Police, but the latter have a better goal difference (they drew their meeting on 7th September, so head-to-head is irrelevant).
Whether they keep second place (and with it a spot in the semifinals) depends on the result of the last group game between the police and Smit SC on 4th October. Smit (who do have head-to-head advantage over Laitkyrhong) only need a draw to take second while a win against the undefeated cops would take them to the top of the table.
For their part Meghalaya Police don’t have to do much as only a phenomenal loss (by a margin of 10 goals or more) would see them drop out of the Top 2.
Meanwhile, tomorrow will feature the final of the Third Division 2024 between Mawryngkneng SC and Umpling SC at 2:30PM at First Ground.
