Shillong, Nov 18: The 1st Meghalaya Inter-School Shooting Championship, organised by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Laitkor Shooting Club and the National Rifle Association of India, concluded with a medal ceremony at the Air Force Station, Laitkor.
The two-day event, held on 16th and 17th November, brought together 20 talented young shooters from six schools. Participants competed in the 10m Air Rifle and 10m Air Pistol categories, showcasing skill, discipline and sportsmanship.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Wing Commander Ashish Dubey, welcomed the athletes, parents and officials from SAM and expressed that Laitkor Shooting Club was most willing to collaborate with SAM-NRAI to host championships for the benefit of the youths of Meghalaya and was encouraged that so many athletes came to participate.
SAM President and NRAI Vice-President John F Kharshiing said, “This championship is not just a competition but a celebration of talent and dedication. It is our mission to inspire and nurture young shooters and pave the way for them to excel at national and international levels.”
He extended gratitude to Group Captain Arpit Kala, Group Captain Vivek Sharma and Wing Commander Dubey for their strong support and for providing the venue for this championship.
Kharshiing also said that some of the top shooters from this event can prepare themselves for the upcoming 6th Meghalaya Games 2025, scheduled to be held from 20th to 25th January 2025.
Neil Sootinck, SAM General Secretary, said that due to the level of interest generated by this event, SAM will in future conduct this championship during the summer and winter holidays and wherever possible during school holidays.
