Double delight for Mawsynram at 4th Senior Softball State Level Championship

Shillong, Dec 15: Mawsynram (East Khasi Hills) won both the women’s and men’s titles at the 4th Senior Softball State Level Championship, organised by the Meghalaya Softball Association, which concluded here yesterday.

Mawsynram defeated Mupliang (West Jaintia Hills), the defending champions, in the women’s final.

Later, in a repeat of the 2023 men’s final, Mawsynram defeated Dkhiah (East Jaintia Hills) to lift both trophies.

Individual awards were also handed out at the prize distribution ceremony. Best Catcher went to Philawanbiang Syiemlieh of Mawsynram in the women’s category and Nangkiewkupar Disiar of Mawsynram in the men’s.

The Best Hitter in the women’s category was Eliza Lyngdoh of Mawsynram, while Sandy Stone Kharchandy of Mawsynram won the corresponding men’s title.

The Best Pitcher titles, meanwhile, went to Larishisha Phawa of Mupliang in the women’s category and Krishna Thapa of Dkhiah in the men’s.

There were seven districts represented in both the men’s and women’s events. The other participating teams not already mentioned were Nongstoin (West Khasi Hills), Nongpoh (Ri-Bhoi), Mawkyrwat (South West Khasi Hills) and Mairang (Eastern West Khasi Hills).

The matches took place at the St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School Stadium, beginning on Thursday. Fr Anthony Kharkongor, the school principal, was present on both the opening and closing days’ functions. Other dignitaries on the concluding day included the chief guest, cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh, Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President John F Kharshiing and MSOA General Secretary Finely L Pariat. The tournament was supported by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
