EKHCA 4th District League T20 Tourney: Laitkynsew & Cricket Smit start campaign with victory

Shillong, Feb 3: Laitkynsew CC and Cricket Smit won their respective matches on the opening day of the 4th District League T20 Cricket Tournament 2024, organised by the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association in Sohra on Saturday.

In the first match, Laitkynsew won the toss and chose to field first against Saitsohpen, who were restricted to a decent total of 142/7 in 20 overs. Ricky Surong top-scored with 55 from 56 deliveries, while Kesper Malngiang took 2/21 in 4 overs.

In reply Laitkynsew chased down the target with 7 balls to spare and with three wickets in hand. Mortician Malngiang (pictured left) struck 41 from 36 balls and was named Player of the Match for his winning knock. Banrapborlang Pyngrope bagged 3/19 in 4 overs.

Later, Cricket Smit won the toss and made Marbisu CC bat first. Unable to score at a run-a-ball, Marbisu were restricted to 116/5 in 20 overs with a top score of 34 from 45 balls by Rohan Rai. Nikodomas Lyngwa bowled a fine spell to take 4/20 in 4 overs.

Cricket Smit had little difficulty in the chase, winning in 13.1 overs and with seven wickets in hand. Nikodomas (pictured right) batted well for his 44 from 35 balls and was duly named Player of the Match.

The tournament was opened by D Kynta, Sirdar of Elaka Saitsohpen, in the presence of members of the Dorbar Shnong Elaka Saitsohpen, members of the Seng Samla Saitsohpen, ex-cricketers from the Sohra region and members of the EKHCA.
