Halen Nongtdu joins Gokulam Kerala on loan from Mumbai City

Shillong, Feb 3: Halen Nongtdu will be seen in the I-League once again after going on loan to Gokulam Kerala from Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC.

Halen has only played in one ISL match despite being with Mumbai City for two and a half seasons now. Before that, the defender had been with the Indian Arrows’ I-League team.

While wishing him all the best for his new assignment, Mumbai City said that the move to the I-League club will give him “valuable game time” and help in Gokulam Kerala’s title challenge. The move was announced on 31st January, the last day of the transfer window.

Later that day, the I-League club’s coach Antonio Rueda was quoted by the team on social media as saying, “Halen is a young yet skilled player with excellent technique and strong defensive aggression. He will fit perfectly into our philosophy.”

Gokulam Kerala, former I-League champions, are currently fifth in the standings. They lost 3-2 at Inter Kashi over the weekend.

Halen, who turned 21 yesterday, has previously played for the India international U-16 and U-19 teams. He was a recipient of Meghalaya’s U Kiang Nangbah Award for sports in 2022.
