Meghalaya’s Kynjailin to appear for India at South Asian Karate Championship in Sri Lanka

Shillong, Jul 2: Kynjailin Lyngdoh Mawnai has been officially selected to represent India at the 9th South Asian Karate Championship 2025, a recognition of her sterling success in martial arts.

The event will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 4th to 6th July, the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association announced today. She will take part in the U-21 individual kumite -50kg female category.

Kynjailin secured her well-deserved selection based on her bronze medal-winning performance at the Karate India Organisation (KIO) 4th Senior and U-21 National Karate Championship 2025, held in Hyderabad at the end of March. She was one of only three Meghalaya karatekas to win a medal at that championship.

In 2024 Kynjailin won medals for Meghalaya at national events in Guwahati and Maharashtra as well as in Gujarat in December 2022.

In a release today, AMKA said, “The Association is extremely happy and proud of her achievement, which not only reflects her dedication and talent but also brings immense honor to the state of Meghalaya. The President, General Secretary, coaches and all members of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association wholeheartedly congratulate Kynjailin on this outstanding milestone and wish her the very best as she prepares to showcase her skills at the international level. Let her achievement serve as an inspiration to all young athletes across the state.”
