Shillong, Jul 23: Lummawbah came from a goal down to beat Mawnianglah 2-1 and qualify for the quarterfinals of the Shillong Sports Association U-20 Fourth Division 2025 after their second round Pool 3 match at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Mawkasiang had already booked their place in the last-eight from Pool 3 and the fight was for the second spot. Lummawbah had the advantage as they had a better goal difference before today (-1 to -2) and thus only needed a draw, while Mawnianglah required victory.
Mawnianglah got their noses out in front in the 18th minute of the 80-minute match when Elnathan Teinam Lyngdoh eased a pass beyond the reach of Lummawbah’s goalkeeper and Mawnianglah were able to hold on to that slender lead until half time.
However, a few minutes into the second half, the Mawnianglah goalie caught a Lummawbah player on the body while trying to get to the ball and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty, which was converted by Mewanshngain Ryntathiang (45’P).
Then, just before the hour mark, Bajiedlang Rangslang (59′), who had looked impressive throughout, slammed in a volley after being fed a cross for what proved to be the winning goal.
Tomorrow will witness the last second round match, in Pool 4. A win or a draw will be enough for Laitkroh to progress, while Lumpyngngad need to win. The latter result will leave all three teams – the other being Mawphlang – on 3 points each and goal difference will then come into the equation. Currently Laitkroh have a goal difference of +1, Mawphlang 0 and Lumpyngngad -1.
