Shillong, Aug 25: Umlyngka qualified for the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2025 final by beating Umrynjah 4-3 in a penalty shootout after extra time finished goalless.
This was a rematch of sorts as both sides emerged out of Group B where Umrynjah had pipped Umlyngka 1-0 on 4th August.
The heavens opened with a torrential downpour at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, just after kick-off but conditions were not affected too much as the rain stopped before half time.
The two teams didn’t demonstrated the smoothest of games but it was Umrynjah who overall looked more like scoring in open play. Nevertheless, the full 90 minutes plus 15 minutes of extra time failed to yield a single goal.
Umlyngka looked like the happier side when the game went to the tiebreaker and they scored from each of their four kicks from the spot.
Umrynjah went first and scored from the first two, missed the third entirely, converted the fourth before their fifth kick was kept out by Umlyngka goalkeeper Berith Nongbri.
Victory means that Umlyngka will be promoted to next season’s Second Division.
The second semifinal will take place tomorrow at 2:45PM between Madan SCC and Mawkriah West at the same venue.
