Quarterfinal lineup of Shillong Inter School Basketball Tournament ready after mammoth Day 2 action

Shillong, Sep 14: The second day of the Shillong Inter School Basketball Tournament witnessed electrifying matches, intense competition and standout performances from young ballers across the city yesterday.

The tournament is being organised by DUBAKH Sports Pvt Ltd at the Pearly Dew Higher Secondary School in Jaiaw Laitdom. (Day 1 results can be found here)

In Group A, Mizo Modern HSS defeated Jaiaw Presbyterian HSS 53-39. G Mawlong of Jaiaw Presbyterian scored 19 points but his team ended up on the losing side. In the same group, St Edmund’s went up against Mawkhar Christian HSS and won 39 to 19.

Over in Group B, G Kharbuli’s 14 points helped Little Flower HSS dominate Shillong Public School in a 35-10 win and then, in the closest match of the day up to that point, Dinet Manik Memorial HSS pipped hosts Pearly Dew 36 to 28. MK Marak scored 14 points and B Boro 11 for the winners.

Jaiaw Presbyterian were then back in action and defeated Mawkhar Christian 46 to 14, thereby consigning the latter to bottom spot in Group A. G Umlong powered Jaiaw Presbyterian’s charge, scoring 22 points. G Kharbuli (27 points) and D Suting (21) were prolific in the next match for Little Flower and Pearly Dew respectively but it was the former who came out on top in a 46-17 win.

The last match of the day witnessed Dinet Manik register a 30-14 victory against Shillong Public School. MK Marak shone again, this time scoring 20 points.

The eight participating teams will now enter the quarterfinal stage on Thursday.

As the top team of Group A (based on points different), Mizo Modern will face Shillong Public at 8AM. Little Flower will then take on Mawkhar Christian at 9AM, followed by St Edmund’s versus Pearly Dew at 10AM. Dinet Manik and Jaiaw Presbyterian will meet at 11AM.
