Shillong College karatekas sweep all categories at AMKA’s 12th Inter-College Karate Tournament 2025

Shillong, Sep 14: The karatekas of Shillong College totally dominated the 12th Inter-School Karate Tournament 2025, organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, as they won all four categories at the one day event here yesterday.

The tournament was organised in collaboration with the Sports Development Cell of Shillong College, which hosted the event, and was supported by the state government’s Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.

This championship was also used as part of the talent scouting programme by AMKA for the 39th National Games 2027, which Meghalaya will host.

Shillong College has always been very active in sports and is known for its tremendous support for its student athletes. The college principal, S Khongwir, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, with the General Secretary of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Finely L Pariat, the guest of honour.

The winners of all four categories were from Shillong College – Gideon Tympuin (men’s open kata), Cheltis Shylla (men’s open kumite) and Rebeka Nongspung (women’s open kata and women’s open kumite).

St Anthony’s College bagged one silver and four bronze place finishes in the men’s events, while St Mary’s College and Lady Keane College took one silver and one bronze place in women’s kata. As is normally the case in martial arts, the two losing semifinalists were both awarded third-place finishes.
