Importance of timely & adequate medical care highlighted through workshop for local football clubs

Shillong, Sep 15: A workshop on sports injuries was conducted on Saturday at the SSA Stadium with Dr Adit Rajesh Maniar, a renowned sports injury specialist from Mumbai.

The workshop was organised as part of a collaborative initiative between Shillong Lajong FC, CORAS Hospital and the Shillong Sports Association, aimed at enhancing the medical and sporting ecosystem in Meghalaya. Representatives of local football clubs, including managers and physiotherapists attended.

The medical professional has over 12 years of experience in treating sports injuries and has been associated with leading hospitals such as Lilavati Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital and HN Reliance Foundation Hospital.

The workshop primarily focused on educating participants about injury prevention in sports. Key highlights included the importance of targeted training, proper warm-up and cool-down routines, adequate recovery, timely and appropriate treatment, as well as balanced nutrition in ensuring overall fitness and reducing the risk of injuries.

He especially emphasised the importance of training in CPR as cardiac events are a rare but very serious medical issue that can affect sportspersons at any time as well as simple steps like making crutches accessible at the ground to players with knee or ankle injuries.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where attendees had the opportunity to interact directly with Dr Maniar and discuss real-world challenges faced in the sporting ecosystem.

A free consultation camp was also organised at Manda Clinic in Fire Brigade where Dr Maniar provided expert guidance to sportspersons and members of the general public suffering from sports-related injuries and ligament issues. The initiative aimed to create awareness about proper diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation methods to ensure faster recovery and prevent long-term complications.
