Shillong, Sep 16: Meghalaya finished as overall runners-up in the 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2025 behind hosts Mizoram as the event concluded in Aizawl yesterday.
A total of 258 shooters participated in the championship, representing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, along with marksmen from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) and the Assam Rifles Marksmanship Unit (ARMU).
At the end of the competition, hosts Mizoram topped the medal tally with 67 medals, followed closely by Meghalaya with 61, consisting of 24 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze. These figures are confusing, however. In the main body of results (viewable here) no medals are shown to have been awarded in several categories, mainly but not exclusively where only one or two shooters participated. However, the overall medals tally appears to include all of these as medallists, which accounts for the odd number of medals in the table (84 gold, 66 silver and 51 bronze).
In the overall tally Assam finished third with 36, while Nagaland claimed 10, Manipur 13, ARMU 8, AMU 5 and Arunachal Pradesh 1.
This result is a much-improved performance on 2024 when Meghalaya were only fourth out of six states.
Competitions were held across sub-youth, youth, junior, senior and masters categories.
Meghalaya fielded five hearing-impaired shooters, whose performances secured them a berth at the upcoming All India Deaf Shooting Competition.
