SPL 2025: Pivotal game between Rangdajied & Mawlai postponed

Shillong, Oct 9: Today’s Shillong Premier League 2025 match between Rangdajied United and Mawlai had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo.

Heavy rain led to too much waterlogging and officials of both clubs agreed to shelve the game in the players’ interest.

This was supposed to be the first match of Round 8 and the season is now at a pivotal juncture. Currently in second place behind defending champions Shillong Lajong, Mawlai are knee-deep in the fight for the title, while Rangdajied are looking for a place in the Top 6 at the very least in order to qualify them for the new SSA Super Cup that is to follow the SPL.

The SPL organisers, the Shillong Sports Association, will in due course issue a new date for the match to take place.

Tomorrow’s scheduled fixture is no less important. Third-place Langsning are also in the hunt for the SPL crown but are outliers when compared to Lajong and Mawlai. Victory against Laitkor would therefore be absolutely necessary for them to remain in contention. Seventh-placed Laitkor, meanwhile, would jump to fifth with victory but they also have an eye on the clubs below as relegation is still a possibility if they do not deliver positive results in their last two matches of the season.
