Shillong, Oct 15: Meghalaya lost to Mizoram by 12 runs in a low scoring match of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy plate group in Agartala today.
Mizoram won the toss and batted first but were all out for 74 in 19.5 overs. Meghalaya looked good in the early part of the chase but lost a string of wickets to be bowled out for 62 in 19.1 overs.
Riticia Nongbet shone with the ball, with the pace bowler taking 3/10 in 3.5 overs, while Solina Jaba had another good day, returning figures of 2/18 in 4 overs. Ajima Sangma (1/7 in 3 overs) and Debasmita Dutta (1/8 in 4) were the other wicket-takers for Meghalaya, while PA Patel top-scored with 18 from 24 balls for Mizoram.
Debasmita and Luiza Tamang opened the batting for Meghalaya and put on 22 for the first wicket before Luiza fell for 10. Debasmita was the third wicket to fall – she was out for a top score of 23 from 38 balls (3x4s). No other batter managed to build an innings and Meghalaya went from 40/2 to 62 all out. Sandhia was the pick of the Mizoram bowlers with figures of 3/9 in 4 overs.
Meghalaya had three matches abandoned due to unfavourable weather conditions but all teams were affected to some degree by this. Victory today would have qualified Meghalaya for the plate final but in the end they finished the group in fourth position out of six teams.
