Shillong, Nov 16: Wallambok Lyngdoh has been elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association informed today.
Wallambok is the General Secretary of MeSCMA. The IMF election was held on 14th November at the body’s 61st annual general body meeting held in New Delhi.
The IMF is the apex body responsible for regulating and overseeing mountaineering and allied adventure sports activities in the country. It functions as the regulatory authority under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for sport climbing at the national and international levels, including prestigious events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. The IMF is also affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing.
Sixteen eminent mountaineers stood for election out of which 11 were elected. The governing council will serve a two-year term, alongside the newly-elected IMF President, Col (retd) Vijay Singh.
Wallambok received 76 votes, the third-highest among those who stood for election.
MeSCMA hopes that Wallambok’s presence on the apex national body will help enhance the promotion of mountaineering and sport climbing at both the state and national levels. This development is also expected to strengthen the visibility and representation of the North East region in national adventure sports platforms in the future.
