Shillong, Nov 17: Ryntih left it until their eighth match of the season but they finally managed a victory today by beating Nongrah 2-1 in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here.
To do so they had to come from a goal behind as Nongrah scored first via Mebaiskhem Lyngkhoi (34′) in what was the 150th goal of the season. Ryntih levelled just before half time through Banlam N Kharbhih (45’+2) and then took the lead minutes from the final whistle thanks to Leversharp Syiemlieh (88′).
In 40 prior matches this season no team has come from behind to win.
This was Nongrah’s last match of an underwhelming season and they now must wait to see what happens in Ryntih’s and Lawsohtun’s last matches. Ryntih have just two days until their final outing, which will be against Mawkhar. Victory for Ryntih would save them from relegation and consign both Nongrah and Lawsohtun to the drop.
However, if Ryntih lose Lawsohtun will be able to climb out of the relegation zone but will need to beat Nongkrem by two goals or more. Meanwhile, a draw for Ryntih and then victory for Lawsohtun would put them and Nongrah on 5 points each. SSA tournaments use head-to-head to separate two or more teams tied on points. Lawsohtun drew with both Ryntih and Nongrah. In this scenario, Ryntih would be placed eighth thanks to head-to-head advantage over Nongrah, who would be relegated with Lawsohtun.
In today’s other match, Pohkseh finished their season with a 3-1 victory against Nongkrem. Badonkupar Shadap (10′), Nivodimus Lyngkhei (15′) and Jeferson Malngiang (65′) scored for Pohkseh and Zothanpuia (48′) for Nongkrem.
Pohkseh jumped two places with the win but this was their last match and they could fall back down again when the final round shakes itself out.
Tomorrow’s fixture:
Mawtawar vs Nongthymmai, 2PM
