EKHCA 5th District League T20 Tourney: Nayabasti squeeze, Pomshutia sail through

Shillong, Feb 20: Nayabasti Youth Club and Pomshutia CC each won their respective match in the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s 5th District League T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 at Saitsohpen, Sohra, today but in contrasting styles.

While Nayabasti won by one wicket against Friends United in Group B, Pomshutia romped to an eight-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Mawsynram in Group A.

In the first match, Friends United won the toss and batted first but could only manage a touch more than 6 runs an over to finish on 121/5 in 20 overs. Nangkiewkor Moore Don top-scored with 30 from 29 deliveries, while Sajib Debnath took 2/11 in 4 economical overs.

Nayabasti chased down the target with two full overs to spare but they were down to their last batting pair when they crossed the line, ending on 123/9 in 18 overs. Swapon Chakraborty’s 21 from 22 was the high score, while Bryan Macmillan Marbaniang returned figures of 3/19 in 4 overs in a losing cause. Swapon was named Player of the Match.

Later, Pomshutia chose to field first after winning the toss and skittled Mawsynram for 99 in 15 overs. Riche Hess Shangpliang managed 16 from 12 balls, while Skhemborlang Khongbtep took 3/13 in 3 overs.

In response, Pomshutia needed just 12.3 overs to score their 100/2, with Shembhalang Pyngrope hitting 38 from 32 balls.
