6th Mawten T20 Cricket Tourney: Lawblei chase brilliantly to win final

Shillong, Feb 27: Lawblei SC won the final of the 6th Mawten T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 by seven wickets and with 2.2 overs to spare against Mawten SC.

Mawten posted a competitive 171/8 in 20 overs after being made to bat first when Lawblei won the toss.

Swarajeet Das hit 42 from 27 balls, while Shavian Blah added another 33, while it was wicketkeeper Dipankar Baruah’s 42 not out off 25 balls that ensured that Mawten put up a big total in the end.

Big is relative, however, and Lawblei made the chase look easy. They took just 17.4 overs to reach the target for the loss of three wickets.

Samir Shah led the charge with a match-winning 50 from just 29 deliveries and he was supported by captain Hameki Susngi’s 34 and an explosive nine-ball unbeaten knock of 24 provided by Rajib Ray.

As champions Lawblei were awarded Rs 60,000, while Mawten received Rs 30,000 as runners-up.

Individual awards were also distributed at the closing ceremony. The Player of the Final was Bharat Gurung, the Player of the Tournament Rohit Rai, Highest Run Scorer Rohit Rai and Highest Wicket Taker Bharat Gurung.

The final was graced by Umerh Kumar, GM ACE Construction, as the chief guest, in the presence of South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association President and Secretary Banteibor Lyngdoh and Bakhainbor Nongsiej, association members, Borbanjop Wahlang, Swender Thongni, club members and other dignitaries.
