Shillong, Mar 12: Lok Bhavan defeated Shillong Sixers by eight wickets in Group B of the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
In the other match of the day Young Guns CC beat United XI CC by six wickets in Group C.
The day started well for the Sixers as they won the toss and chose to bat first. That was the last thing that went their way, however, as they were skittled for 78 in 14.5 overs, with Sandeep Roy’s 33 from 31 balls being the highlight of an otherwise disappointing outing. For Lok Bhavan, Andrew Ropmay took 2/10 in 2.5 overs and Bikash Singha 2/11 in 4.
Lok Bhavan required just 8.5 overs to complete the chase, finishing on 79/2. Krishna Chettri scored 30 from 21 balls, while Andrew hit 19 from 20 and it was he who was named Player of the Match. Manish Singh claimed both wickets to fall for figures of 2/22 in 2 overs.
Earlier, United XI were looking for a second win in a row (after they beat Lawsohtun yesterday) but they made life difficult for themselves when they were all out for only 98 in 17.4 overs after winning the toss. Bharat hit 29 from 26 balls and, in the bowling department, Md Wahid did brilliantly for 4/9 in 4 overs.
Young Guns lost four wickets in the chase but reached the required 99 runs in 13.3 overs. Manthan Dey led the way with 31 from 24 deliveries. Rajib Rai took 2/16 in 2.3 overs for United XI. Wahid was named Player of the Match.
