Shillong, Mar 16: Capital Stars and Winds CC won their respective matches in the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
While Capital Stars defeated Mawsyiem CC by nine wickets in Group A, Winds beat Metallica Rising CC by eight wickets in Group D.
Mawsyiem won the toss and chose to bat first but were rumbled for just 78 in 19.1 overs, with Wanaibok Basaiawmoit’s 31 from 35 balls the best effort with the bat. Chiranjib (no surname provide) took 2/6 in 3 overs and Shekar (no surname provided) bagged 2/18 in 4.
Capital Stars then wasted absolutely no time in the chase, going at over 12 runs an over to make 79/1 in 6.3 overs. Ronit (no surname provided) walloped 61 from 30 balls and he was named Player of the Match.
In the other game, which was reduced to 5 overs a side, Metallica Rising batted first after winning the toss and posted a healthy 55/3. Binay Rai (21 from 9 balls) was the top scorer, while Nick Dan took 2/4 in 1 over.
Winds won the the match with three balls remaining – Manish Sangma hit 29 from 14 deliveries and Akash Chaudhary 11 from 6. Manish was named Player of the Match.
