Shillong, Mar 17: Nongmensong CC and Sputnik CC won their respective matches in the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
In Group B, Nongmensong defeated Sputnik Spartan CC by 73 runs, while Sputnik beat Meghalaya Police by 116 runs in Group A.
Nongmensong put up a total of 152/6 in a reduced 13 overs batting first, with Pushkar Raj Singh (48 from 27 balls) leading the way. Hameki Susngi (3/17 in 3 overs) and Uttam Chanda (3/34 in 3) were the most successful bowlers.
Sputnik Spartans were then restricted to 79/9 in 13 overs, with Bappan Dutta’s 32 from 21 balls the highlight. In the bowling department, Anish Charak claimed 3/12 in 3 overs and Raghav Magotra 2/8 in 3. Adding to his near-fifty, Pushkar also took a brace of wickets and was named Player of the Match.
In the other match, a full game was possible and here Sputnik took the MLP bowlers to the cleaners with a total of 197/7 in 20 overs at a run rate of just under 10 an over. Swarajeet Das pummelled 98 from 59 deliveries but there were still some impressive bowling performances, such as from Pankaj Sharma (3/33 in 4 overs) and Sylvester Mylliempdah (2/27 in 4).
The batting in the second innings was far from impressive, however, and the cops were all out for 81 in 19.5 overs. Ganesh Sahani top-scored with 25 from 32 balls, while Nafees Siddique bowled 4 overs for 4/17, while Subham Mandal took 2/10 in 4. For his 98 with the bat and one scalp with the ball, Swarajeet was declared Player of the Match.
