Shillong, Mar 19: Cricket Smit defeated reigning champions Cricket Lovers by 15 runs in their Group A match of the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s 5th District League T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 at Saitsohpen, Sohra, yesterday.
The other match of the day, in Group C, saw Seng Samla Mawlong Mawriang beat Thynroit CC by 20 runs.
In the morning, Cricket Smit won the toss and batted first, eventually being dismissed for 143 in 19.1 overs. Nikodomas Lyngwa top-scored with 35 from 29 deliveries and Mewankitbok Kharpuri took 4/21 in 4 overs for the bowling side.
In reply Cricket Lovers were restricted to 128/8 in their 20 overs. Damechwa Khongsngi hit 39 from 38 balls, while Bashaikupar Nongdhar claimed 3/21 in 4 overs.
Cricket Smit’s Raymond Thabah, who made 27 from 25 with the bat and bagged 2/34 with the ball, was named Player of the Match.
Later, Mawlong Mawriang also decided to bat first after the toss went their way. They went at just over 6 runs an over to post 123/8 in their 20. Jibon Singh top-scored with 40 from 33 balls and Khraw Mylliemngap took a brace (2/15 in 4 overs).
In reply, Thynroit were all out for 103 in 16.2 overs, well within the required run rate but short on wickets in hand. Gratify Synrem’s 22 from 19 balls was the high score, while Bankit Nongtraw, the Player of the Match, snatched 4/23 in 4 overs.
