Shillong, Apr 1: The Super 8 stage of the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, began today with victories for Young Guns CC in Group A and Royal CC in Group B.
Group A comprises Young Guns, Sputnik CC, Langsning XI CC and Lok Bhavan. Group B consists of Royal CC, Rhinoland Cricket Academy, Rangkynsai SC and Capital Stars.
Today Young Guns edged Lok Bhavan by 8 runs, while Royal CC won by three wickets against Rhinoland.
In the first match, Young Guns won the toss, batted first and made 115/1 in a reduced 10 overs. Angkit Tamang blasted 80 not out from 38 balls to lead his team to a commanding total.
Lok Bhavan came close but lost too many wickets and were limited to 107/8 in 10 overs. Jied’s 22 from 14 balls was the high score, while Rudra Singh Rathore (2/14 in 2 overs) and Girish Raj Ray (2/19 in 2) were the best performing bowlers. Angkit was named Player of the Match.
Later, Royal CC chose to field first after winning the toss. Twenty over were available to each side in this game and Rhinoland put up 168/8, with Rohit Sen making 30 from 18 deliveries. Dippu Sangma bagged 2/21 in 4 overs and Reshabh Dipak 2/38 in 4.
The Royals won the match with seven balls in hand. Raj Biswa top-scored with 48 from 28 balls, while Tarique Siddique was not out at the end on 25 from 18. Sumit Kashyap (2/19 in 3 overs) and Raj Agarwal (2/33 in 4) returned the best figures. Raj was named Player of the Match (he took a wicket in addition to his near half-century).
