Shillong, Apr 8: Sputnik CC trounced Langsning CC by six wickets in their Group A Super 8 match of the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at Polo Ground here today.
Punit Bisht, who in past seasons led Meghalaya as a guest player in BCCI domestic tournaments, scored a thunderous 90 not out in 55 balls as Sputnik reached 123/4 in 16.1 overs in response to Langsning’s 122/9 in 20 overs.
Bamanbha Shangpliang had a good knock himself, making an unbeaten 54 from 50 deliveries for Langsning but the team’s run rate of a little more than 6 an over was insufficient to challenge Sputnik. Sputnik’s bowlers Kshitij Singhania (3/19 in 2 overs) and Aditya Singhania (2/21 in 4) were the pick of the bowlers.
Player of the Match Punit scored more than 70% of Sputnik’s runs as he dominated the batting. Chaman Pushp also contributed 24 from 29 balls as their team won with 3.5 overs to spare. Of the four wickets to fall, Riboklang Hynniewta (3/17 in 4) claimed three of them but his fine bowling wasn’t enough to stem the Sputnik tide.
Meanwhile, the other match of the day saw Royal CC win by walkover after a no-show by Capital Stars in Group B.
