Shillong, Apr 18: Shillong Lajong FC saved the best for last in a spectacular 6-1 victory against Aizawl FC in Round 9 of the Indian Football League 2025-26 at the SSA Stadium here this evening.
This was Lajong’s last match of Stage 1 and it was also their biggest win of a highly impressive season.
Phrangki Buam (26′), Everbrightson Mylliempdah (45′), Lamlallian (67’P), Gladdy Kharbuli (70′) and Tremiki Lamurong (87′, 90’+4) were the scorers for the home side, while Lalhriatpuia Lalrinfela (50′) had briefly reduced the margin for Aizawl. Tremiki had only come on as a 78th minute substitute before scoring a quick brace.
Phrangki and Everbright (pictured left and right) have now scored four goals each this season, making them among the joint-highest Indian scorers.
Lajong won their previous match against Namdhari on 10th April and Birendra Thapa made one change to the starting lineup from that game, with Gladdy taking the place of Abelson Jachi in the midfield.
The win lifted SLFC to second place. They had already qualified for the Championship Round in Stage 2 after beating Namdhari but made sure to end Stage 1 with yet another victory and 3 more points in the bag, which will be carried forwards. Aizawl, on the other hand, will be in the Relegation Round and will have to fight hard to avoid the drop.
The All India Football Federation has yet to intimate the fixtures of Stage 2.
