Shillong, Apr 25: North Liberty Higher Secondary School retained their title as Overall Champions of the West Jaintia Hills District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2026 with a huge haul of 54 medals – 25 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze.
The three-day meet, organised by the District Sports Office in collaboration with the West Jaintia District Sports Association, ended yesterday at the Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex. Twenty-three schools from the district took part.
HK Singh Memorial Secondary School won the U-14 category with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, while North Liberty were second with 2 gold and 2 bronze.
In the U-16 category, North Liberty bagged 7 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals, while HK Singh were second with 3 gold and 2 bronze.
North Liberty also dominated the U-18 category with a haul of 16 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze. Kiang Nangbah Govt HSS were distant runners-up with 3 gold and 3 bronze.
Albine Lamare Memorial Secondary School was adjudged the Best Disciplined Team.
Individual awards were also handed out at the prize distribution ceremony.
The U-14 Best Athlete gongs went to Inibait Lamare (boys) of North Liberty and Ewakanin Phawa (girls) of Jaintia HSS.
The U-16 titles were awarded to Ram Rymbai (boys) of Seinraij HSS and Peaceful Pohplet (girls) of North Liberty.
Ribait Bang (boys) of Kiang Nangbah Govt HSS was declared Best Athlete in the U-18 category along with Saphika Pyrtuh (girls) of North Liberty.
The closing ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner DV Lyngdoh, District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah, WJDSA officials, teachers, students and others.
