St Alfred’s Sec School maintains hold of Ri-Bhoi Inter-School Athletic title for 2026

Shillong, Apr 26: St Alfred’s Secondary School defended their title of Overall Champions at the Ri-Bhoi District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2026, which concluded on Friday.

A record 45 schools and 1,350 athletes took part in the three-day meet.

There was a poignant moment on the final day when the mother of the late Ritina Hanse collected a memento in loving memory of the star Ri-Bhoi athlete, who died last month.

Apart from the Overall Champions title, there were also awards for schools by age category and gender.

The U-14 girls’ title for Best Team went to MeECL Secondary School, Kyrdemkulai while that of the boys’ went to Nongsangu SS.

In the U-16 category, the Best Team (girls) award was bestowed on St Alfred’s SS Marngar while St Paul’s HSS Nongpoh got the boys’ award.

Nongtluh HSS Diwon was named Best Team (girls) in the U-18 age group and St Paul’s the Best Team (boys).

Individual awards for Best Athlete were also distributed at the closing ceremony. These went to Sonia Thrang of Umsning Presbyterian HSS (U-14 girls), Baailad Mawphniang of Nongsangu SS (U-14 boys), Mishalin Ingti of St Anthony’s SS Purdua (U-16 girls), Shanborlang Khongjee of Christian HSS (U-16 boys), Sibilda Maring of St Alfred’s (U-18 girls) and Joshua Makri of St Paul’s (U-18 boys).

Three athletes – Melibad Kro, Anrisha Klein and Sibilda Maring – who have won medals at national and regional events, were also felicitated by the District Sports Office.

Dignitaries present on the final day included Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and various civil servants.
