Shillong, Jul 1: Mawkasiang pulled off a 2-0 win against Group C toppers Pomlakrai and the two will progress to the quarterfinals of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2026.
Pomlakrai had already done enough to progress before today after winning their opening two games. Mawkasiang hadn’t scored a goal (apart from one own goal) in the league but found the back of the net twice today thanks to Auspicious (one name only provided) in the 43rd minute and Western Roy Nongrum (80’+5) in stoppage time. Matches of the Third Division are of 80 minutes’ duration.
That left third- and fourth-placed sides Iaitylli and Rynjah out of the running for the QFs. However, there was still the matter of avoiding the wooden spoon, as the lowest-ranked team will have to battle to avoid the drop in a relegation phase next.
As it happened, Iaitylli are safe after winning 2-0. Their goals were scored by Franky Nongspung (43′) and Shwameiaki Kharumnuid (71′).
