Shillong, Jul 2: Sanmer and Lapalang qualified for the quarterfinals of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2026 from Group D after the last group stage matches were held here today.
In the first contest, Lapalang defeated Umpling 2-1. Sending Roi Rngaid (10′) and Leginthang Changloi (34′) scored for Lapalang, while Umpling got on the scoresheet thanks to a 27th minute own goal, which would prove to be crucial in the grand scheme of things.
Sanmer later pipped Lumparing 1-0 with a Shanbor Thongni (7′) goal early in the 80-minute match.
Sanmer qualified for the next round at the top of the group, having won all three games so far. They are also the only team not to have conceded a goal across the four groups. Umpling’s goal against second-placed Lapalang means that Lumparing ended the group campaign in fourth and last place. Umpling and Lumparing have the same number of points (1) and same goal difference (-2) but Umpling have scored more goals (2 to 1).
The bottom team from each group will have to fight it out in a relegation section.
