Shillong, Jul 19: Donald Myrthong and Mekhamkhraw Nongrem of Meghalaya were part of the Minerva Academy FC team that won the 2026 Gothia Cup in the Boys 12 years category in Sweden yesterday.

Mekhamkhraw scored a stunning free-kick winner with just two minutes remaining to help Minerva defeat Brazilian side RS Sports Yellow 2-1 and retain the U-12 title on July 18 in Gothenburg.

The triumph comes less than a week after the Chandigarh-based academy finally got their hands on the Helsinki Cup, capping another memorable European tour.

The Gothia Cup is an international youth association football tournament organised by professional football club BK Häcken, which has been held annually since 1975. It is considered one of the biggest tournaments in the world in terms of participating teams. Youth teams compete throughout the world to enter the competition.
