Shillong, Jul 25: Schools from West Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills won the U-15 boys’, U-17 girls’ and U-17 boys’ titles respectively in the State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026, which concluded at the SSA Stadium here today.
The U-15 boys’ final was won by North Liberty HSS (WJH), who overcame a spirited challenge from Umpohliew Jingtip HSS (EKH) 2-1. Kyrshanlang Chyrmang (19′) and Malcolm Nongbsap (20′) scored for North Liberty, while Meshanskhem Kharbudon (43′) pulled one for the runners-up, which gave them hope of a comeback that was, ultimately, not to be.
The day started with the U-17 girls’ final where Little Star HSS (EWKH) defeated North Liberty HSS (WJH) 4-1 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The last match was the most one-sided of all, with OM Roy Memorial HSS (EKH) blanking Wapung HSS (EJH) 3-0. Deiwamut Syiem (21′, 69′) starred with a brace, while Chesterfield Umsong (43′) added the third goal to seal a convincing victory.
The tournament also celebrated exceptional individual brilliance on the pitch. The Best Goalkeeper awards were presented to Fairland Nengnong of Umpohliew Jingtip in the U-15 boys’ category, Joplin Thongni of Little Star in the U-17 girls’ and Redimingson Phawa of Wapung for the U-17 boys’.
Player of the Tournament accolades were awarded to Inibait Lamare from North Liberty (U-15 boys’), Jessica Myrthong from Little Star (U-17 girls’) and Ebenezer Sun from OM Roy Memorial (U-17 boys’).
The chief guest on the final day was Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling. Also present was MFA Vice-President Cliff Nongrum and Director in-charge of Sports & Youth Affairs Paia B War Nongbri and other sports officials.
The winning teams will now represent Meghalaya at the national-level Subroto Cup later in the year.
