Shillong, Aug 14: Karatekas of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) won 39 medals at the 20th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship 2026, which was held in New Delhi from 7th to 9th August.
AMKA sent a contingent of 61 karatekas, led by officials Arjun Sewa, Edwilbert K Nongkynrih, Pynhunlang Kharbuli and Sharai Nongneng Shanpru, to the three-day event.
In all AMKA won 9 gold, 11 silver and 19 bronze medals. Meghalaya was also bestowed with the Excellent Team Award.
In a release today, AMKA thanked the state government for financial support towards the athletes as part of the team preparation programme for the 39th National Games 2027, which Meghalaya will host. The association also congratulated the medal winners and all participating karatekas for representing the state with dedication and commitment.
