Shillong, Aug 22: Meghalaya waltzed into the quarterfinals of the U-17 Girls’ Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026 by defeating DNH&DD 8-0 in their last Group D match in New Delhi today.
Only the top team from each group will progress to the quarterfinals and Meghalaya needed at least a draw from this contest.
The team’s top scorer Wandari Rani (9′, 51′, 58′) picked up her second hat-trick of the tournament and her teammates Imandalin Hoojon (35′, 53′), Genefa Myrthong (6′), Laiahunlang Nongrang (20′) and Saphibawanlang Ryntathiang (32′) added to the plentiful number of goals
Meghalaya had won all three of their opening games against Chandigarh, the International Schools Sports Organisation and Madhya Pradesh. The U-17 girls’ matches are of 60 minutes’ duration.
Meghalaya are being represented at the tournament by Little Star Higher Secondary School of Eastern West Khasi Hills, who emerged as the state champions in July.
Meghalaya’s quarterfinal (against whom we’re not sure yet) will take place tomorrow at 2:30PM at the Ambedkar Stadium.
