Shillong, Aug 24: The Vice-President of the Meghalaya State Badminton Association, Pynbianglang Laloo (pictured left), met with the Badminton World Federation President, Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul (right), in New Delhi over the weekend.
Laloo had a fruitful discussion with the BWF President regarding various initiatives to strengthen badminton infrastructure, technical officiating and grassroots development in Meghalaya.
He apprised Leeswadtrakul about the growing popularity of badminton in the state and highlighted MSBA’s efforts in nurturing young talent, organising state-level tournaments and producing technical officials of national repute. Four Meghalayan technical officials were at the BWF World Championships 2026 in New Delhi – Badon Marwein from Nongstoin, Sobin M Sangma from Tura, Riman Lyngdoh and Eranicle Syiem, both from Shillong.
Laloo also sought the BWF’s support for development programmes, coaching clinics, equipment assistance and exposure opportunities for players and officials from Meghalaya to enable them to compete at higher levels.
The BWF President appreciated the MSBA’s commitment towards the growth of the sport and assured of the world body’s continued support for the development of badminton in the North East.
