Shillong, Aug 24: Mawpat secured first place in Group A of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2026 with a 2-0 win over Nongrah at the SSA Stadium here today.
Donboklang Lyngdoh (44′) and Arnesius Marwein (76′) scored on either side of half time. Mawpat have now won four in four games and have a full 12 points with one round to go. Madan SCC (9 points) could equal Mawpat but the latter have head-to-head advantage, so first place will definitely go to Mawpat.
In the other game, played at the MFA Ground, Umphrup defeated bottom side Mawkriah West 4-1 in Group B.
Nangkhrawkupar Kharumnuid (42′), Nangpynkhraw Kshiar (81′) and Batkular Mawthoh (85′, 89′) scored for Umphrup, with the last three goals coming in under 10 minutes. Kyrshanborlang Rangdkhew (68′) was Mawkriah West’s scorer.
Umphrup now have 6 points. They have an outside chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals but they can at least be happy to have avoided any chance of relegation. The top two from each group plus the best two third-placed teams from across the three groups will progress to the knockouts. Meanwhile, the bottom team from each group will go from here to a Relegation Zone, where the bottom two will drop to the Third Division next year.
Mawkriah West have lost all four of their games this season and have conceded 4 goals in each of their last three fixtures. Defeat today means they will definitely feature in that Relegation Zone.
