SPL 2026: Nangkiew Irat register first win by blanking Laitkor

Shillong, Aug 25: Nangkiew Irat scored twice in the second half to beat Laitkor 2-0 in their Shillong Premier League 2026 match at the SSA Stadium here today.

Ronaldkydon L Nonglait (67’) and Jefferson Pakyntein (90’+4) scored the two goals for Nangkiew Irat in what was their first win of the season.

Laitkor won their last match against Mylliem and made three changes to their starting lineup with Samborwell Mynsong, Shaipharlin Nongsiej and Kitdor Kharphuli coming in for Balajiedlang Lyngwa, Eddisius Kharkongor and Damutskhem Mawrie. Nangkiew Irat drew against Nongkseh the last time out and made four changes – Sangti Janai Shianglong, Edyvenson Dhar, Dibinroy Nongspung and Restom Khriam got starts in place of Terry C Khongsti, Yhoto Lohe, Neblejohn Lyngkhoi and Maxderidoff Wahlang.

Both sides made good attacking moves in the first half, though without success. Jeff’s 15th minute shot was parried well by Laitkor goalkeeper Deranius Wahlang and the ball dropped just out of reach of another Nangkiew Irat player at the far post.

Kitdor fired the ball at the Nangkiew Irat goal twice in the space of a few seconds in the 21st minute following a corner but both were blocked by defenders. His teammate Shelbilkstar Kharshilot then went close on the half hour mark while, at the other end, veteran Dibinroy Nongspung tried a cheeky back-heel in stoppage time following a Sangti cross but this went wide.

Nangkiew made some attacking substitutions early in the second half and one of those was Yhoto, who threaded a fine shot between two defenders just under an hour into the game but Deranius pulled off a great save.

The Laitkor keeper did have a good game up to this point but he could not keep out Ronald’s sublime left-footer that was fired in from outside the box.

Laitkor tried to get back on level terms but they did not come close to scoring in the second half and Nangkiew Irat were able to double their lead in stoppage time when a lovely through ball by Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw was dealt with expertly by Jefferson for his second goal of the season.

Tomorrow bottom side Mylliem will have their work cut out when they face Mawlai at 3:40PM. Mylliem lost their first two games, while Mawlai have 4 points and have yet to concede a goal so far.
