Shillong, Aug 30: The 41st Meghalaya State Badminton Championship 2026 concluded in Nongstoin yesterday.
The 26th to 29th August tournament brought together shuttlers from across the state, with 245 participants hailing from 11 districts.
The men’s singles title was won by Gitchiak Bregim A Sangma of West Garo Hills, with Mebanker Shullai of West Jaintia Hills coming second.
The women’s singles final was an all-East Khasi Hills affair, with Elsarica Umdor winning against Pratiksha Joshi.
Both Elsarica and Pratiksha teamed up in the women’s doubles and here they finished second to another EKH pair, that of Sejjal Joshi and Sheetal Joshi.
The men’s doubles final was contested by two pairs from WJH. Mebanker and his partner Deilang Wa-oo Nongpluh claimed the title over Banshanbor Lamare and Gregoreo Passah.
The mixed doubles final saw Gitchiak team up with Sonnal Joshi in an WGH-EKH combination and they defeated Mebanker and Jossifina D Passah of WJH.
Besides senior category badminton there were also U-19, U-17, U-15 and U-13 categories as well.
