Shillong, Sep 12: After several rounds of exciting football matches organised by the Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association at the new artificial turf at Umbuda, the Dr DD Lapang Memorial Trophy 2026 football tournament concluded on Thursday, with Pahammawlein beating Umsaitsning 4-2 on penalties.
The final was highly competitive and thrilling, with both teams putting in their best efforts to secure the championship title. However, neither side could find the back of the net during regulation time.
The match was therefore decided through a penalty shootout where Pahammawlein defeated Umsaitsning to emerge as the champions of the tournament.
Pahammawlein received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while runners-up Umsaitsning received Rs 50,000. The RBDSA also presented individual awards to outstanding players, including Man of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper and other awards.
The final ceremony was attended by Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla as the chief guest, with Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem as the guest of honour. Also present were Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare, members of the Lapang family, acting RBDSA President Paul Star Nongrum, RBDSA Secretary Dipshon Ryntathiang, Ri-Bhoi District Sports Officer Bobby L Nongbet and a large gathering of football fans.
